Same-Day Dentistry for Children

Dental Emergencies

If you’re a parent, it’s important to have a dentist you can turn to if your child experiences a dental emergency. At Treehouse Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, Dr. Nasem is here to help no matter what dental issue is causing your child pain or discomfort. Our team is experienced in treating pediatric emergency dentistry. We can keep your child comfortable with sedation, and ensure they get the restorative care they need to repair their smile and get back to their day-to-day life.

What Is a Dental Emergency?

Common Dental Emergencies

  • Knocked-Out Teeth – Teeth can be knocked out by oral trauma. If a permanent tooth is knocked out, this is considered a serious dental emergency. Recover the tooth, put it in a container of milk, and visit our office within 1-2 hours to have it replaced. If you do not seek prompt treatment, the tooth may die. Even if your child loses a baby tooth prematurely, this is a serious issue that can negatively affect oral development.
  • Persistent Toothaches – A serious toothache can be an indicator of a deep cavity or an infected tooth. Both of these issues require immediate dental care to prevent further complications and provide your child with relief from pain and discomfort.
  • Oral Lacerations – If your child’s mouth is bleeding due to oral trauma like a slip and fall, and the blood flow does not stop within 1-2 hours, they may have serious oral lacerations that require stitches to heal properly. We’ll also need to disinfect their mouth to prevent infection.

Be Prepared

What to Do In A Dental Emergency

  • First, contact Dr. Nasem for a same-day appointment and come to our office as soon as possible.
  • If your child’s tooth has been prematurely knocked-out, recover it and place it in a bag of cold milk. This will keep the pulp alive until we can re-implant it.
  • If you have time, you can treat bleeding with clean gauze or cotton balls. Children’s Tylenol or Motrin can help with pain, and icing the cheek near the affected area can also help with discomfort and swelling.
  • These are all temporary fixes, and it is crucial to come to Treehouse Pediatric Dentistry right away in the event of a dental emergency.
